Stick Work : Art to Make Live

How can relating to the animacy of something remind us of our humanity?

Stick Work is a series of studies in how we might relate to the world and create aliveness.

It is making art with what can be noiselessly fashioned and pennilessly found.

It is passing time with objects, creating through tapping in viscerally, and gently attending to their needs.

It is putting process, space for emotion, and multi-sensory contemplation over permanence.

Over the course of three days, Gallery 2424 in Savannah was open to the public as an herbal tea space and interactive sensory exhibition

Visitors were invited to take off their shoes and make themselves comfortable in the space.

In addition to a public exhibition, this work was expanded upon as an semester long collaborative installation and open studios workshop where individual students, professors, and building staff were invited to create their own stick self-portrait in my scraps-only style.
